There are very few games that I wish I could experience for the first time again, and Split Fiction is one of them. I honestly have no words to describe how I feel about this game. In all the best ways. It is incredibly inventive, and fresh from new mechanics, settings, down to the concept itself. Where the game truly shines, in my opinion is in how emotionally impactful each of the "stories" are. At the heart of the game, learning to forgive yourself and accept yourself, and learning to trust yourself is ultimately what helps you heal from your trauma. The emotional bond between the characters creates so much opportunity for trust and growth both in their friendship and ultimately in themselves.
I truthfully tried to like this game, but didn't end up completing it. The combat was very enjoyable and I loved how detailed the character customization was. The story was a little ~~ kind of weird and needed improvement. The thing I didn't like about this game was the overwhelmingly large amount of loot. Don't get me wrong, I like picking up collectibles and stuff, but this was a little overboard. There was a modification system, which was kind of interesting, but required money, materials, and other special resources. Sifting through all of the gear to optimize my play-through overwhelmed me to the point where I played less and less, and eventually stopped due to how overwhelmed I got. I haven't played since launch, so I'm not sure if they made additional adjustments or not. Maybe I'll try to pick it back up and give it another shot.
Hands down one of the best games of the year! After the let downs of earlier this year, it was definitely a breath of fresh air. You may have heard this, but it's kind of a cross between God of War with souls-like elements. It takes a few min to figure stuff out, and when you have it down, they add a new thing in. So it's always growing in the options you can access. Death is very forgiving, and even aids you on your journey. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. I think one of my favorite parts though is the journal or compendium. It shares myths regarding the yaoguai you come across, and that helps build the story.
