Elena is an insecure, vindictive, self-loathing, hypocritical fraud. Her insane jealousy and need to feel superior to her oldest "friend" Lilu, whom she only helps to make herself feel good, is gross and I have no sympathy for her. Seeing her humbled and Lilu's perseverance are what keep me hooked.
There's a lot to like about this premier. It's good to see some of the regulars making an appearance. I also enjoyed seeing Macaulay Culkin and Sarah Paulson is unrecognizable! It's kinda giving me Wayward Pines vibes, but I think this season has potential. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this is going to play out.
I would categorize it as a thriller; there's drama & suspense around memories and the mysteries of what has really happened, serious creepiness and characters that are psychotic, villainous and those that are misunderstood. It has a diverse cast of main characters that evolve/devolve as the story progresses (as did my opinions of these characters), but the story is easy to follow if you're paying attention. Although I predicted some of the outcomes, I wouldn't consider the series predictable. The acting was great and the storyline gave me Sharp Objects vibes. My big criticisms are that nothing was truly resolved with the finale and the editing was weird and felt like this was a series created for regular tv with commercials. Overall, I really enjoyed the series and highly recommend.
