How To Train Your Dragon is my favourite American animated movie of all time. I still have an incredibly vivid memory of watching it in my local theater at Logan Hyperdome in Brisbane watching it in 3D back in 2010. It was the third ever real D 3D movie I'd watched at that point behind Avatar in 2009 and Bolt in 2008. I remember really getting into the movie and really enjoying how good the worldbuilding and voice acting was in it aswell as having incredibly directed flying scenes which looked awesome in 3D. I adored everything about it and definitely is a movie I look back at fondly with a lot of nostalgia.
When I realised a live action remake was being made for it a couple of months ago, I was cautiously optimistic about it and was looking forward to seeing it. I took my brother along to see it and we both enjoyed it very much. It was a perfect live action remake and seamlessly transitioned the original movie into a live action experience.
I was glad that Gerard Butler made a reappearance as Stoick and he was very good in the role again. The actor who played Hiccup this time was different from Jay Powell in the original movie, but the new actor did a really good job and I enjoyed his presence in the movie. It was nice to see Julian Dennison in another movie because I really like him and recently saw him in the New Zealand movie Uproar and he was really good in that aswell as Hunt For The Wilderpeople which is my favourite performance from him. All the other new actors who played all of the supporting characters such as Astrid, Fishlegs and Snotlout were all really good in it aswell.
Overall this was a really good remake and I highly recommend it.
