I can see how someone would think this movie is so bad its good, but to those familiar with movies, so bad its good is an actual category and The Aftermath is not really in it.
Sure, there are decisions that put a smile on the viewers face, but all in all Barkett seems honest and wholesome here, unlike the completely unaware perverts and imbeciles who usually make those movies.
Freud says every dream is a wish, and similarly, the kind of film one makes is, too, an insight into ones psyché and seemingly what Barkett wants is: to be an astronaut, a family, and to shoot bad guys. Whats wrong with all that?
Some of the action and acting is subpar, but the movie makes up for it with actual characterization and by having a heart and a strong, useful message.
Should someone be looking for an introduction to legitimately so bad its good movies, try Plan 9 from Outer Space, Starcrash, Deathstalker, Lifeforce, Robot Holocaust, Battlefield Earth or The Room.
Ps: that kid died in the desert and you know it.

There is not one original idea in this movie, but that in itself woudnt even be a problem. It is also insulting to the viewers intelligence, but sadly, no one seems to care.. How did the flight recorder get back onto the Odyssey? Shsss... Alright, then can someone tell me why would the antagonist ever give our characters free will, when it is clearly stated they could deny it too? Because then the movie is not happening? Oh, i see.. But still, if there is a logical answer to that, why werent we told about it? Why put the free will thing in there anyway? It was literally a single line of dialogue, and has nothing to do with the rest of the story. It doesnt matter. Just shove everything in there, the idiots will never notice..
Is that really what science fiction has been reduced to for some? Mere entertainment? Escapism? Where are the big, concerning questions about morality, society, the meaning of life? Well, not in this movie, thats for sure..
Instead we get perfectly blank characters, except for Cruise and Freeman, of course, who are playing, well, Cruise and Freemen. One will save the word and the other will deliver the completely out-of-place exposition. No wait! Actually, they both do both.. Well, i guess, theres an original idea for you.
The movie looks kinda nice tho. Still, its watchable at best.

He is not a mere wunderkind anymore, no. He is, in fact, the next step of human evolution.
In the mean time, Star Trek is slowly turning into an experiment of how little effort from one single character can ruin an entire franchise. And with every bit of this obnoxious nonsense they are getting closer and closer to their goal.
Was there no one around to slap Roddenberry in the face!? With the truth, of course...
