It is a good adaptation of the book, mostly. It is quite different from Arnies which well that one was loosely based on the book suffice to say but a classic in its own right. The movie pays homage to the first w set pieces and some nice cookies are thrown in there. It isn't an action packed movie but neither is the book, and it adapts what there is pretty well from what I recall and add some elements which work well IMO. Overall a solid book adaptation and I was really on board until the very end when they tease the original ending of the book but decide to change it for some reason as these often go. Minus the ending pretty solid.
I really just saw this on a whim cause I just got AMC a lister and a free day to load w movies. This was the night cap and my first Dolby Cinema experience so maybe a bit biased w the change of screen and recline chairs. But I was quickly enveloped and absorbed by the movie which is arguably but IMO one of the sequels that not only meets but surpasses the first. It felt like the director had more control to create his own beast and for much of the movie is done in a dream / flashback mode of grain and utter eeriness that mimics the Sinister VHS tapes (if u kno u kno). It might be a bit NOElmStreet but overall the movie did everything I could want and more w a sequel of the first, it had new character perspectives but also brings back the bro and how he has changed, and the icy environment really was a good change of pace and allowed some unforgettably creepy and disturbing stuff. It might not be a theater necessity but if you liked the first id say check it out (and turn out the lights!)
Only really got to this because of a trial I have. Was not expecting much at all but by the end I was actually surprised by what it had "shifted" into. Generic premise of zombies not zombies and a house of survivors but one of them is a murderer (the surprise is killed off from the get go tho which was probably a mistake). For what it's budget likely was it was pretty impressive. The acting is well enough and the monsters are pretty well done. I was actually surprised with the ending which is rare these days. The characters and situation have a slight "Silent Hill" type vibe IMO. I figured this would be a 5 or 6/10 but it works the extra mile so 7/10 for me.
