This film isn't particularly bad, it just isn't very good either. It is very formulaic as sequels go. None of the characters every feel like they are in actual peril, and the plot, such as it is, is pretty dumb as well.
I like Bob Odenkirk, and he has clearly put a lot of work into being physically able to perform this role, and I think those efforts deserve a better story. The first movie was pretty good but as sequels go, this is akin to Naked Gun being a follow-up to Taken, such is the silliness of it.

Having been born the same year the original movie was released, and being a big fan of movies in general but specifically horror, Alien and Aliens are movies that I hold very dear, so I had really high hopes for this series but after two episodes it is clear this franchise is dead in the water.
James Cameron achieved better character development in a few short scenes in Aliens than this series has managed in two episodes, and none of the characters are even slightly worthy of any sort of support from the viewer. This screenplay is extremely weak, with poorly developed, unlikeable characters across the board.
The plot, what there is of it, is fine in principle but once again has been really poorly put together. And why has it been watered down to what amounts to a 12A children's movie? What is wrong with making a genuine, gritty horror show for adults?
The SFX are pretty decent but can in no way rescue what is a very disappointing show that hammers the final nails into the coffin of a franchise that should never have gone beyond the first two movies. Prometheus is far superior to this show, and probably even Alien: Covenant because while they are imperfect they at least get the tone right.
I have given this a 5/10 rating but honestly don't know where I have even got the 5 from. I haven't enjoyed any of it so far but watch it and make your own judgements. I will probably watch the entire series in the vain hope that they can somehow salvage it but with no protagonists to root for and a dislikeable premise I don't hold out much hope.
