After reading the premise for the show I thought it would be right up my street..and I was right. Its well written and brilliantly acted by all involved. I even like the music..and I was there in the 70s/80s with proper punk ....if there's an album then count me in.
I started watching this series with pretty low expectations, but wow was I wrong. Its superb..definitely my favourite series this year. What's the secret for the success ? Well obviously a huge dose of nostalgia for those of us who are a certain age, but also the writing is first class and the casting is spot on with Ralph Macchio and William Zabka the standouts for me. Why aren't these two actors global superstars ? Their performances are so natural. Add to this a sprinkling of 80s rock/ hair metal and superb supporting performances and you have the recipe for a show that I hope will continue for many more series.
My one moan ? ...why are the episodes only 25 or 30 minutes ? ....come on..give us an hour.
I honestly dont get all of the low scores and negative comments. For me Gatiss and Moffatt have breathed new life (hahaha do you see what I did there ? ) into a tired old story that has been told the same old way for too long.
Everything about this adaptation is outstanding. The writing is top notch as we have come to expect from these two writers. The cast is superb..obviously Claes Bang stands out as the handsome, charismatic, funny, blood thirsty count, but Dolly Wells more than holds her own. Her performance is superb.
I'm a huge fan of this genre, and this is a clever new telling of the Dracula story.
In my opinion these writers should just be given a blank cheque and asked to take on some of the other stories that need updating.
I'm 2 episodes in and cant wait for the last instalment.
