Lots of people crying about how similar this movie and Bram Stokes Dracula are. Well yeah, it's a vampire movie. You don't just go to the movies and only like it if it's completely different than anything you've ever seen. I mean that's cool and all but you also go to the movies to see how a director tells the story. It's an old story, that's been being told for centuries before all of us were born. A monster, a love interest and a problem. ((shrug))
Got that out of the way...
When the movie ended, I said to myself "Now THAT was a good vampire movie." I was thoroughly creeped out. Orlock is scary af. Not just visually, but that feeling you get listening to him talk and knowing he's about to do some damage to somebody. The sense of dread I had almost the entire movie. I like horror because of the way it makes me feel in between the scares. This movie delivered on that. I hid behind my jacket a few times. All of the actors did an amazing job; however, I want to shout out to Lilly Depp (not like she will ever see this lol). She played that role superbly. If I lived closer than 2 hours to a movie theatre I'd go watch it again. I will be buying a physical copy when it's released. Extra special addition if there is one. Brilliant visual storytelling,
I'm only on episode 3 but I have to take a second to say how Bruce Campbell is absolutely killing it in this show. I'm used to him being kind of over the top acting (not because he over acts, but because that's what the role called for) like Evil Dead but in this he really really really is doing a great job of like playing a sheriff. It's coming off like very genuine the way he's acting his. You know his hand movements and not just the words that he's saying but all of it just seems very very genuine. At this point I'm just trying to get to my 200 word mark because I'm not done watching the show.
I think many people have missed the real message of the movie. Could it have been better, of course. However, my rating isn't about the movies political implications, but rather about how it shows the possibility of our country heading in that direction. The film effectively illustrates potential realities we could face. It highlights how extremists on both sides, driven solely by their own beliefs, can overlook the impact on others. One of the early scenes brought me to tears, reflecting on the possibility of such actions happening among us. By the end, I was overwhelmed with a sense of dread. I encourage you to watch this film with an open mind, rather than expecting polarizing content, so you can grasp how quickly our relatively young nation could shift towards such a daunting new normal.
