With all of the insanity in the world right now, it's easy to become overwhelmed and wonder what it's all for. While I wish they would have touted this not as the final episode of a great show, but rather specified it was a standalone special, it is an episode I'll definitely watch over and over when I need.
A refreshing reminder that life is for living, that living is a mixed bag of good and bad, pleasure and pain, excitement and mundanity, and that it always ends.

There is no question that everyone who worked on this film were massive fans of the stage musical. There have been some very good musical stage to screen adaptations since Chicago ushered in a new era of movie-musicals, but this one gets it
So right!
The additional scenes that have been added to make this an entire film enrich the story and provide some wonderful surprises. The production design is exquisite and deserves to be seen on the highest resolution screens in order to enjoy the loving detail. The same has to be said of Paul Tazwell's sumptuous costumes. If you wanna know why he won the Oscar, just look at the subtle differences of each of Elphaba's black dresses.
Speaking of Elphaba, Cynthia Erivo is a once in a generation talent, and is simply the most beautiful human...even in green. Jonathan Bailey is so adorable and joyful. Jeff Goldblum is at his most Goldblumiest and it works. Michelle Yeoh makes you love to hate her.
Of all of the actors, Arianna surprised me the most. She has created a Galinda that has such wonderful layers. It's a role that could be somewhat two-dimensional comic relief and sometimes villain, but Arianna's Galinda is complex and conflicted. She can break your heart with a look, or a pause. Arianna also has some real comic chops.
It's a movie that I will watch over and over again. I cannot wait to see what Jon M Chu has in store for Act II!

I remember seeing 28 Days Later and thinking it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Now 23 (not 28 lol) years later I left the theater thinking the same thing.
This movie was scary, yes...and I jumped more than once. But I was surprised how sad and heartbreaking it was. What an exploration of illness and grief. I also felt like it spoke to the sometimes unrealistic expectations that are placed on young men, even in 2025.
Alfie Williams as Spike was absolutely genius and his dynamic with Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Jodie Comer shows exactly why both of them are among the best actors of this generation.
I was SUPER thrilled to see Edvin Ryding in another role outside of Young Royals and hope we'll see as much of him as we have of Cilian Murphy since 2002!!
This movie was left wide open for another chapter and I will be there opening weekend to see what's next!
