If you are looking for a movie that is ANYTHING like the book you will be disappointed in a big way. This movie diverges from the book almost immediately. I don't know why they did this but to me, it seems like they weren't creative enough to work in some of the best storylines and scenes. The aesthetic is great and Barlow is scary looking but the filmmaking is uninspired. This to me is lazy storytelling at best and does a complete disservice to this novel. So much of the magic each character had is left out and we learn nothing about the town or infamous Marsten house. This would've benefitted from being a mini series instead so each character and the town could develop more.
