I used to find IMDB reviews a reliable predictor of whether the movie was worth my time. I no longer feel that way. I'd taken a chance on a number of movies rated less than 6 and have been glad I ignored the low ratings of what turned out to be solid 6s or greater. Not all people like the same type of movies. Giving a movie a low rating just because it does not turn your crank or you don't like the ending or story line is a disservice if the actors do a good job and the creators have done a good job telling the story. This movie's present rating is a good example of what I am talking about. Another movie that I recently watched, "Dead For A Dollar" is another example of a movie I am glad I watched in spite of the low rating. This movie is also called, "The Home Is Where The Heart Is." I'm glad it was changed to it's present title as it is much more relevant to it's fine plot. I enjoyed watching it. The only actor that I recognized was Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul's Jonathan Banks. The story takes place in small dying Texas Town. I rate it a solid 6, avoiding the temptation to overrate it to counter act the undeserved low ratings. I hope my rate encourages folks to take a second look at lower rated movies.

Costner returns to his home in 1927 Montreal from China to buy guns to use there because of the murder of his doctor girlfriend. The movie is about his efforts to find a source of guns to smuggle to China and raise enough money to purchase the guns from criminal elements in Prohibition era Quebec. Smuggling Canadian booze to the completely dry U. S. dominated much of the criminal activity. Costner and his brother attempt to make money smuggling booze into the U. S. Costner's brother is killed. The police are corrupt and there is a nasty corrupt policeman to make that point. It is a slow low budget production where the makers did a good job. You can see Costner before the days of Tig Productions. The movie is worth a watch and you can see hints of what the future holds for Kevin. If you have an attention span greater than a goldfish you will recognize the the movie spins a pretty good yarn on a budget. I rate the movie 5.5 stars rounded to a 6.

I just finished watching this series on Netflix streaming. I refuse to use their thumbs up or down ratings for their streaming selections. This series deserves more that just a click on a thumbs up icon. Wild District is not available in the NF DVD section so it is impossible to leave the review it deserves there. I was irritated enough by NF's failing to provide a means suitable for viewer feedback that would be useful for other members that I jumped through enough hoops to be able to leave a review here. Now..I was glad to see that Wild District is getting high marks here and that people are smart enough to recognize what a gem this series is. I am sure that I will never have the opportunity to visit Colombia and appreciated the opportunity to see and learn about this troubled country through this series. I have been watching the news coverage of this country's peace efforts and what they were attempting to do with former FARC rebels. This series provided some insight into this process as well as the countries struggle with corruption. The central character is a "reinserted" FARC fighter who faces many challenges and complications. The series has a great cast of interesting characters. I felt the plot, acting, filming were first rate. I watched the entire series in 2 nights. It never lagged or dragged. The plot was believable. The ending was especially satisfying. I have not enjoyed the ending of a series this much since Longmire. Anyway..the series deserves a look and a better outlet for meaningful feedback/recognition than being limited to clicking on a thumbs up icon. Netflix..you are moving backwards instead of forward by your reducing your members ability to provide feedback.
