Reasonably well-written and very well-acted. Garcia-Rulfo is well-cast as the recovering alcoholic attorney with nothing to lose except everyone who gives a flip about him. More kudos for Holt McCallany as Neil Bishop in this season. This is a gritty character played by a gifted character actor. No wonder he's a favorite of the top directors in the biz. He makes every story better.
If you've read the books, you'll find that the series kinda sorta follows them ok. So far. Trivia: There's a character in Connelly's novel but not in the series. Probably because the rights to that character are with another series based on his books?
I knock half a star off for presenting LA as a favorable place to work and live. Put it this way--there is way too much English spoken in this series if we're to believe this series is set in today's Los Angeles.

Russell Crow is such a gifted actor that even in the wrong costumes he's believable. You will be entertained. Also, if you've seen any of the Hemsworth brothers' films, you know that they really need strong direction to turn in a decent performance. Liam and Luke got just that in William Eubank (likely with some help also from Crowe). As a result, none of the main characters here were weak.
The action in this film is intense, well-scripted and well-choreographed. The cinematography is also expertly done.
My only complaints are the limited budget leading to the use of the wrong manned aircraft (you really shouldn't believe that the team's insertion was achieved with a HALO jump from a chopper). And there were a few "never-empty" magazines during the firefights.
Other than these minor issues, this film is well worth the full ticket price. I wouldn't hesitate to go see a sequel.

People who may be experiencing chronic depression should probably avoid watching this show. It will not help your condition one bit. This is all of the worst of Lost spread throughout 28 episodes that never really connect to each other. Dark, depressing, and desperate characters that are never really even hopeful.
The only redeeming quality I attribute to The Leftovers is the excellent performance of this very talented cast. When fans are telling you to "stick with it to the end," they are saying that the show is so bad that it takes a world class cast -- giving their very best performances -- to make it marginally viewable. Brenneman, Theroux, Coon and Dowd had to work extra hard, using their best talents and tricks, and the show is still barely watchable.
