Psychological drama by renowned writer Charlie Kaufman (I want to be John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) now behind the camera, and who had surprised us with the good animation Anomalisa of 2015. It is the proof that a cinema is not only made with (a lot of) words. Following the protagonist's line of thought in the first part of the film, although tiring, nevertheless creates an expectation of what will happen next. The meeting with Jake's parents, however, is frustrating, and tiredness turns to boredom. And it doesn't stop there, the unanswered questions accumulate in a suffocating and crazy and tedious snowball. My conclusion is that the title explains the state of mind in which the viewer reaches the end.
A woman is on a personal revenge crusade against those who blew up the plane where her parents and siblings were traveling. For anyone who thinks it is easy to make a good action film, this film is an example of failure. Director of photography Reed Morano had already caught the eye with I Think We're Alone Now (2018), but this time he got his hands on it when adapting Mark Burnell's book. A poorly chosen cast where even the experienced Jude Law seems out of place, a script full of flaws and scenes difficult to enact, like an inexperienced girl suddenly becoming an international murderer. It didn't work as an action movie, the proposal lacked credibility.
For those who remember the 2003 series, nothing has changed much, even with five new hosts. This time they are in Tokyo, looking to help different people with their problems. Nothing very new and anyone who likes this type of 'reality' may like it, but the series seems to me to be dated and besides, the standards are doubtful, since what is good is what is good for Americans. "The only way is my way". Beauty model is Audrey Hepburn, and decor is a loft in Soho and the food is apple pie. Seriously? The Japanese are much better and don't need it.
