  • A Very Need Homage

There were many, many ways this could've gone wrong, but when you watch a powerful project as this and are able to feel the devotion in the whole crew from start to finish, some small mistakes have little to none effect on your watching experience.

Gabriel Leone shines mostly when it comes to subtlety. Not the greatest acting skills, but still, manages to be the right fit for the career-defining role. Kaya Scodelario has never been a personal favorite of mine, but she delivers her best performance yet here. It might go unnoticed, and it really is a shame.

Episode 3 is a powerhouse and deserves every mention possible. Can't wait to watch this one again.

The show easily finds its way to touch Brazilians in a very special way, Senna's fans or not.

There are some nuances exploring how Brazilian people needed a figure like Senna throughout dark times for our people. Being born after his death, some of my biggest childhood memories still revolve around him (hey, I've always been a big Senninha fan!).

The last episode does feel a little bit rushed though, and while we, as audience, are able to comprehend their intention by not spending too much time with the aftermath of the fatal accident, it somehow feels bitter, as some important extra minutes have been recklessly cut. I'd go even further by saying we needed a full additional episode.

All in all, a bunch of great stuff to mention, but oh, I've fallen in love with the production, and would love to see more from this whole crew. There's so much study, thinking and caution taken into every single detail for every single sequence. Not only the message and the importance given to a true hero, but the show manages to turn every viewer into a Formula 1 fan, even if only for a few hours. Beautifully done.

    "O Brasil é a minha casa, a minha gente."

  • When a Gorefest Knows Which Way to Go

I really, really didn't want to be that guy rating a Terrifier movie with 9 stars, and I'm as surprised as you are, probably. But hear me out.

This one fixes everything the others have done wrong. First of all, let's talk about pacing: the editing team knew exactly how to work its runtime, and made every second count, which, for me, is the real problem with Terrifier 2, being all over the place throughout the whole thing. A mess.

Don't get me wrong: it is a gorefest, but this time the director knows how to use it in his favor. While the audience understands the creators way of thinking about every crazy and gruesome killing sequences before actually developing a plot (they make damn sure not to hide it), this finally goes on the opposite direction and thinks about the storyline first and adds blood later.

Tone and scenery: maybe my greatest surprise was watching it sequence after sequence and having to admit to myself that they actually achieved a perfect match. Can't ignore the dark humor, the films gets you to jump and laugh within a minute.

The Christmas theme does wonders for the film's amazing visuals and truly adds something spicy to the plot, not feeling forced at all. It somehow reminded me of Scream VI, adding the New York setting as something fresh for the franchise.

It also made me realize how terrible the sound design was for the previous ones, because here it delivers a spectacle on its own, and makes the experience in a movie theater so worth it.

Does it presents the greatest script you have ever seen? Nah, and it has never been this franchise's intention, but it's cinema crime not to care about it in a way they clearly have done before. Here, we have some great and freaky ideas used as the perfect match for the whole gore element: creativity made this film worth it. I'm still thinking about the tree ornament thing.

It includes some of my favorite death scenes of all time, it doesn't allow the viewer to get tired because Art is always improving his own skills, with new gears and moves, and even when it's something ordinary (like a gun, for example), there's some grace to it.

And it's impossible not to talk about Lauren LaVera. Yes, I know you all have loved Sienna in Terrifier 2, but she simply didn't do much for me. Not saying she was bad bad, but forgettable, and even though she was alive, I couldn't really see her as a final girl. In here, she is also one of the film's strongest elements. Excited for a sequel just so I can see more of her.

Can't stop thinking about how the final fight got me on the edge of my seat all the way through the very end. Great acting, impeccable editing, and the right bittersweet closure.

Scared to say this must be one of the greatest horror films of the year.

    If not the greatest.

  • Good, Could've Been Great

Oh, the editing team really think they've achieved something astounding here, don't they? And it's not like they didn't have a trillion chances to. Unfortunately, the entire thing feels flat. And for a 170 minute project, this is very equal to a crime.

I won't get into the directing efforts because I feel the problem isn't exactly there, even though it is far from being a splendid job. The editing is tasteless, and it's where the main flaw is. Instead of taking us to the vibe of the concert, somehow the film manages to pull us away, so we're left with a lifeless feeling.

You're about to jump out of your seat 'cause you know a certain powerful moment of the tour is coming, and when it actually happens, you are left with an empty feeling, thinking to yourself "well, it was better when someone illegally put together a multicam edit with fan videos on Youtube".

The whole movie structure is a mess, and there's no rhythm whatsoever. To go through the whole thing and not get used to constant and extremely dry transitions from concert to documentary seems awry.

The movie obligates you to care way more about the next outfit than what's actually happening on stage, and I was sure that would work beautifully on the screen, but it was just too... messy? Distasteful, even.

The sound mixing is full of poor choices. Even some pieces of live vocals were shockingly wrong. Moments when what you're hearing simply doesn't match what you're watching, and while the audience obviously understands it is a collection of different performances, there's no excuse for that on a film.

There are some stunning takes and beautiful shots every now and then. The audience sequences are so fun and quite frankly the best part of this film. Some documentary bits bring strength to the project (Blue Ivy's sequence is deeply touching). The fact that it comes from a beautiful tour full of interesting details can't be ignored, it is only not explored in the right way.

All in all, it simply doesn't do justice to the excellence that is the Renaissance World Tour, and that is a shame.
