I am a big fan of Cdramas but did not have the highest of expectations going into this, particularly bc I thought there would be too few episodes to tell the whole story.
They absolutely blew my expectations up. The chemistry between the leading actors is probably the best I've ever seen. The acting (especially in the emotional scenes) is INCREDIBLE.
I have already watched and rewatched this series several times, and the emotional impact is the same every time.
They had a low budget, and they used all of it so wisely. This is my favourite uncensored BL of all time.
Zhang ZheXu and Mi Jin are absolute stars.

While I have dabbled in Asian media this was my first C-Drama and I am happy to say it is my favourite series of all time.
Yes, it is often silly, and overacted, and the CGI isn't 100% there, but this only adds to the charm of this series.
I binge watched this series in 6 days, yet I felt like I had lived a lifetime with these incredible characters, spanning ~20 years of their lives.
Wei Ying and Lan Zhan have incredible chemistry. Their bond and love is simply undeniable despite the censorship.
The story goes from light to dark, to light to dark again. There is horror, political intrigue and romance.
Not a single of the 50 episodes is filler, all are interesting and gripping to watch.
I am on my third rewatch in a month, and I could watch it another thousand times. I will never get over this series.
I wish more than anything I could go back and watch this series for the first time again. For anyone thinking about watching, please do!

Unlike many views here, I really enjoyed the beginning. I found (most) of the acting good, the characters and story line compelling. It wasn't until episode 6 or so that I started questioning motivations. Nevertheless, I kept watching, and enjoying. The last episode absolutely destroyed this show for me. Storylines genuinely made no sense, it seems certain decisions were made based on shock factor. The most interesting narratives of the show were cut short in order to appear dramatic, but it leaves me thinking, why would anyone be invested in watching a second season? I certainly am not. I was optimistic about this one, but was extremely let down in the end.
