Yes it's probably true there are no new ideas in Sci-Fi. To be fair, the opening 'tribute' to TOS was funny and nostalgic.
It was interesting (as it always is) to see established characters playing different personas within the context of the show, especially when the holodeck allows them to play it completely over the top.
Frakes brings lots of TNG homages into the episode so there's plenty for fans to spot and enjoy but for me, the problem with introducing later tech into prequel series, particularly in the context of TOS vs TNG is; why was there no mention of holodecks in TOS or the movies until TNG?
That's just a fan gripe, but enjoy the episode for what it is. A snowday for the cast.
