You can tell in the first 15 minutes that this was not a movie Jake Gyllenhaal should be in, he's just better than that. The only thing this movie had was the name which I'm sure they paid a lot of money for, as well as for a high calibur actor like Jake Gyllenhaal. I'm waxn't a huge Swayze fan but being raised in the 90s I have watched most of his movies, probably a few times and enjoyed tbem all, except for Ghost :barf:. Knowing that Patrick Swayze has passed away, when I began to watch the 2024 Roadhouse I had the guiltitiest feeling, like it was improper to carry on watching such a mediocre remake of the famous original. And Connor MacGregor? Smh.
This is truly one of the best TV shows I've seen in decades. It has the feel of a spaghetti western with.the smooth styling of a Bruce Lee movie on a Blockbuster movie budget. Its an honest look back at the struggle of Asian Americans and Irish immigrantion during the wild west era. It reminds me of Kung Fu but an HBO type Kung Fu, David Carradine would have loved this show. The cinematography, photography, storyline, set development, and character development are all above par. Most importantly, the martial arts scenes are beautiful, fluid, well directed and believable, it's above and beyond any Martial Arts I've seen on TV or in the movies in decades. I can't imagine the amount of work it takes to create such an amazing product, what a labor of love. Unfortunately it doesn't get the attention it deserves, like Badlands, another great dystopian show. It truly is a must see for any fan of westerns or martial arts. I hope it's around for years to come and I appreciate all the effort it takes to bring us such an amazing program.
This indie like flick shows you can take a minimal plot, minimal lines from the main character Mona Lisa, combine it with good acting and make a hit to rival Hollywood blockbusters. Kate Hudson was bomb also, totally didn't expect to see her in this sort of role, her best performance since Fools Gold. It was one of those unexpected and much appreciated movies, glad I took a chance. I loved that the questionable parts were not overly explained, I like making my own assumptions of what's happening, it makes it personal. As a 90's raver I was digging the soundtrack, the look & the overall feel of the whole movie. Made me wanna get out the blacklight & drop a tab lol Well done to the writer & director. Thank you sirs may I have another? See you in the sequel, I hope!
