Some reviewers seem to be confused about the title, and it's forgivable. If you didn't catch the quick reference to the number of days on the station at the end, you'd be wondering why the story took place in the 2190's, as stated in the intro, but was titled 3022. Having clarified that point, there are so many complete lapses in any kind of logic in this story that I felt insulted and kept thinking I should just give up on it. But I did get through it...and now more than ever I wish I hadn't. I'm usually pretty tolerant of Sci-Fi, but this was ridiculous!
It could be postulated that the purpose of human existence is to try everything within the realm of possibility and figure out what works. But there are times when one could reasonably ask: "OK, but why THIS -- did it really need to be tried?" Joe Exotic and gang are an excellent example of the later. Watching their antics has similar characteristics to watching a car wreck at a super-slow frame rate. You want to look away, and know very well that you should, but can't
David Lynch has one particular talent that I find truly fascinating; the ability to capture the flavor. essence and high strangeness of a dream...and then put it out there for all to see. For that reason I've always thought that Eraserhead is a masterpiece so unique that it can't really be judged or compared to anything else. You either get it, or it will seem meaningless -- just like that dream that left you shaking your head and wondering what the heck that was all about. Was it trying to tell you something, or was it just a bunch of neurons doing their thing for some unknowable reason? If, like me, you enjoy contemplating the mysterious inner workings of the mind, you'll probably enjoy "What Did jack Do?"
