  • Fantastisch!!! (Fantastic!!!)

I LOVED this film! I was a huge MV fan back in the day. I didn't even really care about the scandal... I just loved their songs (I have their second album on CD by "The Real MIlli Vanilli" called "The Moment of Truth," which also has some banger songs on it).

I thought all the actors were terrific, especially the guy who played Farian, and it was good seeing Brad Howell and John Davis get the spotlight. I like that the characters occassionally broke the 4th wall, but not too much.

I enjoyed this so much. I was tapping my foot throughout. Damn, they don't make music like this anymore! R. I. P. Rob Pilatus, John Davis and Frank Farian!

  • Felt like one of those made-for-TV bios from the 70's/80's

You know, where there's a fade in/fade out for commercial breaks. Don't get me wrong, it's a great topic for a movie and I recently ordered the book it was based on. I liked it overall, but for a WW2 film it felt considerably small-scale (yes, I know the bugdet was not huge). Still, they could have attempted some cinematic wideshots to get a sense of the devastation or tried some interesting camera angles, but it's all tightly-cropped obviously-staged sets with static cameras. I didn't really get a sense of Lee either, other than she was kinda cantankerous (maybe the book will provide a better picture). Lee and Rose from Titanic were only 12 years apart in age (yes, I know one is fiction), but I kept thinking this could have been what happened if Rose went to WW2, hmm. Oh, and Winslet is 49 and Lee was in her early-30's in WW2... maybe a different actress could have made it more believeable (Winslet could have produced but not starred?). Also, I'm not sure why they had to smear blue paint over Winslet's naked chest... the other scenes involving nudity were natural and fit the context of the scene.... but this one?? Oh, I did like the clever twist at the end regarding the celebrity narrating their life story to a journalist trope. Again, quite a good movie but now I'm looking forward to the book to get the *real* story.

  • I very rarely give a film 10, but... WOW!
