  • Bang, marry, kill: Lili Simmons vs Trieste Kelly Dunn vs Ivana Milicevic

A guy and a girl fall into a trap after a diamond heist, and he sacrifices himself so she can escape. After fifteen years in prison, he finds her in a small town in Pennsylvania, married with children. With the help of a top hacker friend, he assumes the identity of the local sheriff to stay near her until he decides what to do next. Banshee is a corrupt and dull community where everyone knows their place and no one makes waves, but the new sheriff will turn this town upside down.

It is a very interesting action drama-thriller that hooked me after the first episode and kept me riveted to the screen until the end of the third season. It has everything, great action scenes, emotional drama, tense thriller, just enough humor, painful and gory slasher moments, and it doesn't lack explicit nudity and sex.

Antony Starr and Ivana Milicevic in the main roles did not initially excite me, although I grew accustomed to them quickly; however, most of the other actors are fantastic. The pace is fast but not too fast, the story is full of twists and turns but quite consistent and believable, and the characters are impressive and you will bond even with the villains (if there are any good guys in this story at all).

And then they screwed up the fourth season. At the same time, it is rushed and overladen and goes so much over the top that it loses the charm that the previous three had. All aspects of the story are brought to an end and rounded, but somehow forced. It's as if the authors had an idea for a few more seasons, and they were only given a few episodes, so they decided to cram all those ideas into them at any cost.

    8/10.

  • "You're like Santa Claus with that list, Bud, except everyone on it's been naughty"

Hollywood of the fifties. Three policemen, one all stiff and according to the rules, the other a brutal thug, and the third a "rock star" who does his job in front of the cameras, find themselves involved in the same case, a mystery whose unraveling will come back to them like a boomerang and smash on their heads.

A phenomenal cast (Kevin Spacey, Russell Crowe, Guy Pearce, Kim Basinger, James Cromwell, Danny DeVito), nine Oscar nominations, of which it won two (Kim Basinger for supporting female role as a femme fatale and for the screenplay, and it would probably have been more if it hadn't competed against the dumb "Titanic"), cult status and almost exclusively good reviews from critics and audiences.

Honestly, I'm not thrilled. This neo-noir features a well-written, multi-layered story that lacks little, but ultimately doesn't bring anything new. Even fairly effective twists are predictable if you've been observing and have plenty of movies under your belt. I'm not surprised that the story delighted the audience that comes to the cinema a couple of times a year, but that people who work professionally in the film give it an Oscar... The acting is excellent, but I would rather give the Oscar to any of the three leads than to Kim Basinger. She didn't build her career on good acting, let's be honest. Compared to, for example, Sharon Stone in "Basic Instinct"... doesn't even compare, and this movie has a lower IMDb rating, and only two Oscar nominations, with Stone not being nominated...

All in all, a good crime-thriller, technically well-filmed, with a good story, atmosphere, and acting, but nothing particularly original, spectacular, striking, or memorable.

    7,5/10.

  • Three hours wasted

I could write essays about this movie, but after wasting three hours, I have no intention of wasting another three. I thought Ben Affleck would be a lousy Batman, it turned out that the other characters were even worse miscast. Compared to Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Affleck is awesome. If Luthor were the only flaw in this movie, it would still be enough to ruin it. So, all the main roles were miscast, and the main characters were presented in such a way that they had nothing to do with the idea we had about them before. The script is cluttered and chaotic, full of holes and illogicality, the motivation of the characters is weak, unrealistic, and pathetic, the acting is mediocre, and the atmosphere and pace do not hold attention at all. Honestly, I watched it to the end just to have the right to spit on it, and the rating is not lower because the action scenes are really impressive and because I'm a fan of Amy Adams.

    5/10.
