This is a beautifully written, beautifully acted and beautifully shot piece of work. The understated performances from Colin Firth and Olivia Colman are a delight. This film captures the stiff upper lip, keep up appearances at all costs way of life with the real emotion always simmering beneath. If action movies are your thing you probably will not appreciate or make it through this film but, if you do, the rewards are bountiful. It is an absolute masterpiece of understated excellence.
I watched the first series because I like both David Schwimmer and Sylvestra le Touzel. It was funny but not laugh out loud hysterical. Now I have watched all of series 2 and it IS hysterically, laugh out loud funny!! I hope there's a third series.
I love Hugh Laurie whether he is the straight actor or the comedian so I was always going to watch this. I like off the wall comedy and this definitely qualifies!! I struggled a bit with the first 2 episodes but I was totally engaged by the end of episode 3. Hugh Laurie's humour is so much more evident in this episode and, with that, comes more appreciation of the quality of the other actors. I'm glad I stayed with it, I loved episode 3 and can't wait for no. 4.
