Weapons is without a doubt one of the most intense and fascinating horror movies I've ever seen. I rarely give good reviews to any horror film but this one went above and beyond my expectations. The premise is quite simple, a classroom of kids goes missing. It sounds normal, but something about the plot is so eerie and terrifying it keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout. The film does a good job of balancing the horror with some comedy to alleviate the underlying tension that is there. Weapons has so many twists and turns that will keep you guessing throughout. Josh Brolin and Julia Garner carry this film. I highly recommend seeing this movie in theaters with an audience, it really makes the experience a whole lot better.
Not many films have been made on World War I, so I was interested in seeing what Sam Mendes would bring to the table when I went to an advanced screening of this. The movie is absolutely breathtaking and thrilling. The cinematography makes you feel as though you are joining these 2 soldiers every step of the way. Each action sequence in the film keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would definitely say this is an IMAX kind of film and highly recommend that everyone sees this in theaters for the best experience. This is without a doubt the best war film since Saving Private Ryan.
The Grey is a film that not only should be rated higher, but is also perfect in its gripping storytelling. This film is extremely divisive, either you will love this movie or hate it. However, in my opinion this is one of the best films in cinematic history. The emotional drama between Liam Neeson contemplating life and death, as well as his ability to convey himself without much dialogue is not only moving, but also compelling. The Grey is beyond emotionally draining, which will turn some viewers off, but the strong storytelling and message behind this film is something that more films need. The soundtrack is also superb as it adds emotion to already emotional scenes. This film should be rated higher, and it is a cinematic masterpiece.
