I read the books as a kid, and fast-forward ~15 years and I just wrapped up the series. There were many things I did not remember (most of them in Season 3), but I remembered the general idea and the ending. And I've got to say, it's an amazing adaptation. I even went to the internet to find out that many of the things I did not remember did actually happen in the books. The casting was great, Mrs. Coulter is the best adapted character, and Dafne Keen performs a great job as Lyra. Here, once more, HBO shows how good they productions are.

I am unsure if this series is as enjoyable as it is if you haven't read the books, but if you're into fantasy, it is definitely worth a watch. For me, it was a great trip to my teenage.

Perhaps it is not my cup of tea in terms of humour. It is definitely that kind of "english humour" that doesn't make me laugh at all. And I do understand many people don't find it funny.

But despite of that, I still enjoyed the history, the characters, the 4th-wall breaking, the acting was incredible in all of them... I wouldn't just say "it is a comedy" - maybe there are some tones of dark/cynical story with some bits of drama (particularly in the season 1). And a bit of a love story in the season 2.

As the show is not that long (only 12 episodes, with a runtime of 30 minutes), it can be watched in a whole afternoon.

Amazing writing and acting from Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The plot: Mario and Luigi are 2 brothers that work as plumbers, who accidentally travel to another dimension, through a green pipe, and end up in the Mushroom world, which is in Danger due to the gigantic turtle Bowser, who wants to marry the prince Peach from the fungus world.

That is the basic idea of the plot. I guess for kids, it is ok - it has fun, colors, animated fights, simple jokes, action, and all that. The movie es very fast paced, and lots of things happen in the ~1.40 length of the movie.

For adults, it is full (I mean: full) of references to the whole franchise, from the oldest NES games to the latest versions in the newest shiny consoles.

I think for the grown ups, the movie must be boring if you haven't played Mario, nor know too much about it. For those who have, nostalgia plays a lot, showing again how powerful nostalgia can be when selling experiences.

Having said all that, I had a blast seeing many Mario characters around here and there, or listening to all the FX sounds that reminded me of being a tiny human playing in my NES console, something as simple as Mario jumping on a turtle. Or losing a Power-Up. I gotta admit, they did a good integration of the game mechanic into a movie.

They knew they target audience, and they played well. If you remove all of that, it is just another generic animated movie.
