Meiyazhagan is a simple story which touches your heart, how a simple person with his unclutered actions can impact and change other persons life completely.
The starting scene of Arvind Swamy feeding hundred of parrots is soothing and also defines the speed of the movie. The story moves slowly and engulfs you with expectations on where is the story going.
Ending is good and meaningful. Overall, some of the scenes like marriage dinner and drinking parts could have been compacted a bit. Better characterizations of some secondary characters could have made the movie last longer in thoughts of viewers.
I know only Hindi and English languages but love to watch other language movies with impactful messaging.

In the book, story follows a man who is sent to prison for rape of a 15 year old girl, this part is not mentioned in the movie.
Did not understand and appreciate the message in the movie first. I had to read reviews and articles on the movie to understand that the author was talking about life in general. Its not about the mental asylum only. It was fun to watch Danny DeVito play one of his first roles. Pace of the movie is excellent. Liked excellent portrayal of Nurse Ratched. Some excellent camera angle work can be appreciated. You feel attached to the patients due to their acting skills. Even the ending is not straight forward one has to conceptualize and understand why and what happened. This is one of the great film endings.

One cannot ask for a better cast of best actors in Mumbai. Naseer, Om Puri, Pankaj Kapoor, Tabu, Irfan,
Vishal Bharadwaj gets credit for brilliant film with high caliber in fields.
Every character is built strongly and it is difficult to decide to like or be against any character.
Minor roles played by Om Puri and Naseer play a very critical role in telling the story strongly. Their agreeing to play minor roles talks greatly about their dedication towards the art of acting.
Pankaj Kapoor's portrayal of Mumbai don with grounding in reality is almost impossible to match.
