I have really stated to appreciate Clint's films recently most notably Richard Jewell, the mule and gran torino- so this being possibly his last directorial effort I wanted to see this one on the big screen and I wasn't disappointed.
I've always been in the pocket for a decent courtroom drama and when done well they are always very watchable films.
The best thing for me in this film is the actors and their performances. I thought they were all on top form, I thoroughly enjoyed watching each one of them cook and I was actually snickering quite a bit at the various interactions. Toni Collette is amazing, hoult carried the movie very well he's a charismatic presence. The supporting cast is top notch as well and they add a lot of texture to the film.
The story is well written and each interaction has value, the moral dilemmas are well thought out and force us to consider what we would do.
I would recommend this to most people, I can't imagine anyone walking away and hating it, but yes the direction isn't very fancy but it's certainly a good looking film.

Went to see this with my 15y old daughter and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes there are some crazy turns in the story, you can debate if that is realistic or not. The story is pretty crazy to begin with but 8 was soooo in when I saw the trailer and I wasn't disappointed. Unlike the recent film twisters, which I will never watch again, I'll definitely re watch this at some point.
The story is never boring - I won't go into the plot details that's already out there - but all the performances were very good across the board especially Hartnett, and the direction was good/sometimes great, but the point here is the high concept and it's executed well and I thought seleka was good with the music and her performance.
You can criticise this film but for me, if you miss the movies from the 90s and 00s which judging by streamers top films, we all are, this might fit the bill for you! I like this twisty unliquidated little thrillers and I was more than happy to spend my hard earned cash on it because I want more of this and less of the BS we have been fed for the last 5 years.

I found this to be absolutely and completely unfunny, risible dross. I love Sebastian's stand up a great deal and WAS a huge de Niro fan for many many years but I'm sorry this just falls completely flat. Basically zero laughs. The shining is funnier than this. Goodfella is funnier than this! Seven - is funnier than this!!. How could they not wring a few laughs out of this awesome story, Ben stiller did it on meet the parents but I would not recommend firing this one up. I have to report I couldn't continue to the end. Life is too short. Watch an old de Niro, like midnight run, or some of Maniscalcos stand up. This is a complete dud.
