Stop me if you know this show - insanely overpowered MC with no personal growth, either resurrected or isakaid from another world, not actually a good guy but pretends sometimes to manipulate others, spends a good amount of time thinking aloud and auara farming, and of course ends up with a harem. This show is NOT that. Call me a bit bitter, but I was about to just give up on watching any new anime. This show is like a simple cool glass of water. A few tropes, sure. Straightforward, yep. - But finally a MC that I actually care about. Humor, action, character bonds - I'm all in.
I wasn't expecti ng much, I admit. Maybe an attempt at a quirky animation style, characters deparately saying quips to out-Marvel a Marvel movie, tongue and cheek PG style, some over the top morality tale. But, i forgot - I was just too busy watching. It's hard to explain why I loved this show so much. The world is traiditional - hero, swords, magic, dragons, elves... and refreshingly and unapologetically so. The general animation remind me of shows of old - she-ra/he-man come to me. But, of course, much sharper, smoother - and action sequences similar to great modern animes. Also, satisfying gore, intersting setting, great voice acting. The story trapped me too.
