  • Like Watching A Car Crash - I Didn't Like It, But I Had To Keep Watching

Having perused the handful of reviews for this show, I was wondering if maybe I had watched something different to most of the other reviewers who slathered this series with praise for both the acting and the script.

    Give me a break!

Let's start by saying that some of the actors were exceptional in the roles they played. I was extremely impressed with the acting from the women who played the mothers of Liam and Rob. Unless I misunderstood, Liam and Rob were brothers, so the casting of the two men seemed a bit off. Liam had a distinct Maori twang in his speech, whilst Rob didn't. Some might argue that that is because Rob was moving in a more upper class direction than Liam, but if anyone tried that argument, I wouldn't buy it.

Morgana O'Reilly was great in her role, but I found Tess Haubrich difficult to watch. I found the script to this show very "amateur theatre" and it suited Tess's acting in this show.

I'm not going to lie, I binged it because a friend said it gets better as the season goes on. I am currently reviewing that friendship.........LOL

The scenery in the show was incredible and highlighted New Zealand beautifully, and Vinnie Bennett (Rob) was easy to watch too.

Because of the acting and the script, I spent the first half an hour of the first episode laughing. That's the only reason I would recommend this show is if someone I know needed a good laugh!

  • Just Awful

It saddens me to write this review, but what a ridiculous idea it was to try and turn such an Australian classic into some modern re-write. People want to watch comedies for entertainment, not political crap and woke messaging. Poor Ruth Cracknell would be rolling in her grave, but I think she should rest peacefully knowing that nobody could ever out-Mother the original Mother in Mother and Son.

As a guy in my 50's, I have great memories of watching this tv show with my parents and I grew up learning about adult life, a bit about dementia with older people and the effects that dementia can have, both real and made up by the person suffering through the dementia.

I just read that there is going to be a second series. I may cry.

  • Season 2 Host - not so good

Season one of this show was great and the show was really all about the cooks, the judges and learning from everyone involved.

I'm only 3 episodes into season 2 and the host has made the show about herself first, the cooks second, herself third and then the judges.

Her tone and her screaming aren't the right fit for this show. It's also disappointing that she seems to have no real knowledge about the subject matter of the show. And the off the cuff attempts at humour, again aren't a good fit for this show.

Having said all of that, I'm loving the competitors in season 2, with some great fun people involved.

All season 2 is missing is having a Rasheed on the show.......he was certainly some wonderful eye candy.

If there's a season 3, I can only hope that a new host is found.
