This film easily deserves its place in the Naked Gun anthology with the thermal vision scene being the funniest thing I've seen in a movie for a long old time. I was laughing about this scene for hours after it had ended. The gag rate is relentless and pretty much every joke lands. Liam Neeson gets the tone just right and reminds us of his comedy chops (seek out his scene in Life's Too Short for more proof). You'd only be watching this if you know what you're letting yourself in for and if that's what you're after you will not be disappointed.
I can't add any more than the other succinct reviews here that express frustration at how this movie inexplicably loses its grip on you from the second act onwards. The pulsating opening was truly awesome, setting up what I thought was to be a relentless two hours of unbelievable tension. The second act sagged, but promised an explosive climax. Instead, we get a frustratingly bland third act with a 'Wuh??' ending.
If you want your Batman dark, brooding and bent on vengeance then this is the Batman for you. This is how we want to see the dark knight portrayed on the big screen. A superb R-Patz was born for this role. Disregard any doubters with concerns about being too dark (whether thematically or visually) - the mood of The Batman fits perfectly with the concept of a noir detective thriller complete with the femme fatale ( a stunning Zoe Kravitz) and unrecognisable Colin Farrell as Penguin. This is a grown up, thoughtful version which lays foundation for further exploration of character and I hope we get to see much more from this darker incarnation of the bat.
