How can you root for a main character when they are an awful human being. A toxic mess who uses everyone in their path. Cheats, manipulates and then tries to be a martyr? Well, let me introduce you to Lina. Who wears low slung pants with her g-string exposed to a hospital visit. She's a real piece of work who gets caught cheating via a hidden cam. I don't want to give too much away. But let me say that two of my favorite Aussie actors, Chai Hansen and Luke Cook (please check out "Good Cop/Bad Cop) are in this. Literally, they are the pawns of this most despicable woman.
Josh Helman plays a very convincing role as Dan (whom Lina cheats with), and her 2 "friends" are very convincing.
You see, the story is quite decent, but the main character, erases all sympathy.

Sofia Helin ( great actress-"Bron") stars as Iris, a cold Case lead who has switched cities ( to Malmo) after time off from her previous position in Stockholm, due to a bereavement of her partner (relationship wise) being killed. Her first case is of a teenage boy who disappeared 20 years prior. The other cast is filled with some fleshed out characters including her pain in the ass sister and her kids, her stab you in the back co-worker (artfully played), her sad sack partner as well as the other intertwining stories that are involved in solving this case. & stars is the set score for anything Helin is in, so a strong seven, means that this 6 part series really went fast. Don't believe the nay-sayers, those who watch 10 minutes of something and feel like they can review it.
I know. I hear all you skeptical "Maigret" book readers. Since when does anything match the book(s) we love? I have been disappointed over and over. But this is what they call, interpretation. May-grey.
On it's own, this is standout. The fact that we do not see the Eiffel Tower or the Seine as majestic makes me love this show that takes place in France much more. It reminds me of "Endeavour", because of Benjamin Wainwright's intensity. He is saddled with a great group of underlings who knows he is the balls. Except the usual backstabber-co-worker (Carver). Each story is told in 2 episodes. I was fortunate enough to see all 6 in this series and the end result is my rating. 1 star is lacking because Stefanie Martini (Maigret's wife), is sorely underused. Episode 6 is excellent. Watch this as if you never knew the books, and you will enjoy it's quality.
