I enjoyed it enough, but I probably won't rewatch it like I have some of the others. It is sweet, Adam Sandler and the rest of the cast do a good job, but I guess it was missing that final bit of magic for me?
I listen to a lot of tv/movies while doing other things as background noise. This is ideal for that, the music is catchy and well sang (I mean, with this cast it's going to be sang well). The acting was hit or miss, but the writing was only somewhat ok. They pushed the boundary on some things and got very soap-boxy about women's rights. There was a lot of "telling instead of showing" as my old English teachers used to say- we could have had an theme of women's empowerment without having actual lectures in the movie, and even that wasn't well rounded. I liked that there wasn't anyone who was truly "evil", just misguided, but by doing this it makes her entire struggle a little 'cheaper'.
