  • On what planet is Alyssa Milano the right choice to host?

I have never liked Alyssa Milano as the host of this show. I just don't understand how she is in any way an expert who should be judging such talented contestants. I still watched the show despite this, but when AM started bumping her gums with her bullying of "Trump supporters", I drew the line. I could give a rat's backside who a person supports politically and I'm sick to death of these irrelevant, uneducated Hollywood has-beens displaying the very behavior they claim to abhor. I feel like Lifetime is smart to cancel this show - I can no longer be a viewer of a show that employs a bully like her. I am part of the silent majority who is done with the toxic social and political climate celebrities are fostering and have decided to fight back in the only truly effective way...hit them in the wallet by not watching any movies or TV any of them are on, and refusing to purchase products they plug. And my oh my is the list getting smaller by the day of things to watch and things to buy, but if everyone who's sick of it does the same, maybe they'll start to think twice before spewing hate speech about which topics they know nothing.

This show is a prime example of the swill that passes for comedy these days. Like other reviewers have quipped, it is AWKWARD. That's the nicest thing I can say about it. It seems like a desperate attempt for Rachel Dratch and company to relive her Saturday Night Live era, but they fail miserably. Fred Armisen in Portlandia might be funnier. That's really sad.

  • Funny One Liners but Something is Off

Since "cutting the cord" with cable, I have enjoyed most of the original series put out by NetFlix (and the other guys as well). The Ranch offers a more realistic approach to how, in my experience, families speak to and act toward each other....politically incorrect, f-bombs, insults, teasing, etc. I love that about this show, as well as the fact that, unlike shows on the major "family" networks, it doesn't have a forced lesson in each episode (although the lesson is clear: no matter what, at the end of the day, families love each other) and it doesn't feature the usual family with a perfectly-appointed house with well-dressed, college-bound obligatory one boy and one girl with mom and dad feigning wedded bliss and dad working a successful job in corporate America. While I'm sure this does happen in real life, it's not how the majority of American families operate and I am happy to find a show that has some sort of semblance of a "real" modern family.

There are some seriously hilarious one-liners throughout each episode, but to me, something seems off or missing. I feel like the problem revolves around poor timing of jokes by Danny Masterson and Sam Elliot. Not that Ashton Kutcher delivers anything Oscar-worthy, but his timing is more on par with what is expected of someone starring in a sitcom. Quite frankly, I am shocked that some of the other reviews state the exact opposite. The other thing that annoys the tar out of me is the oh-so-fake laugh track after every joke. I don't know how this could be corrected, but the way it is now is ridiculous. Oh, and just because it's called "The Ranch" and has Sam Elliot, it doesn't necessarily *have* to have country music.

I am currently at Season 1, Episode 4, and pray that it gets better since the basic premise is something we don't often see on TV: how a real family survives day to day.
