With most comics leaning far left, it's understandable that Fox News Channel sought a conservative comedian. But Jimmy Failla is not funny. He opens each show with an excruciatingly long monologue in which every joke falls flat even though he laughs at everything he says. Then he brings on a panel comprised of Fox News personalities and unheard of comics who are equally unfunny and they discuss topics. And sometimes his wife and son. His family thinks he's funny. Jimmy thinks the other comics are funny. The Fox News personalities must endure all this. Makes me wonder if they are required to participate. The studio audience laughs at everything anyone says, proving they can obey signs telling them to laugh or applaud. It's sad watching people fail so miserably to be funny. The show will leave you shaking your head and saying, "OMG, this is awful." There has to be a better conservative comedian somewhere. There just has to be!
Looking at the cast and director, I expected something very good. In fairness, the movie is okay but not much more than that. The plot was interesting at first but became more confusing as it went along. When the killer was revealed, there had been no reason to suspect that person and it just seemed like a convenient way to wrap up the plot. Almost as if the writers didn't know how to tie it all together and just picked a character at random to make the guilty party.
The acting was good with one notable exception. I am a big fan of Charlie Day. But he was miscast as the cop who interacts with Honey. It seemed like his character was meant to provide some lighter moments to a dark story without actually drifting into comedy. It was hard to take his character seriously and just seemed like Day was trying too hard. While the rest of the cast seemed wholly invested in their characters, Day looked like an actor acting. And a mustache and a strange accent (New York maybe?) didn't help.
At least at 90 minutes, the film doesn't drag on. It's an okay film to watch if you've got nothing better to do and you don't expect too much. .
