  • Fun alien popcorn flick. Nothing more than that.

A movie about aliens AND timetravelling. What could go wrong? Well, looking at recent filmmaking, in most cases this would lead to a contrived, overly complicated story line and many flaws pertaining to logic, consistency and credibility. This movie doesn't have these issues in a way that they ruin the movie, because it's more or less straightforward and keeps things rather simple. It's plain fun.

No, it's not perfect. The script is pretty run of the mill. There's family issues in it, that the movie could do without (BTW why is it that in so many Hollywood movies with aliens it's all of a a sudden about family values? Chuckle). There are some things that are not so logical (not gonna spoil it). And also the way they fight the aliens is not always convincing, especially in the second part. And I thought the aliens were only vulnerable in the neck and belly area? But then a gunshot or chainsaw to the head apparently also does the trick. Hmmm.

Anyway good action, great flow. Good looking movie. Nothing super special. Nothing to get serious or philosophical about (sorry, Chris Pratt). All in all it's well executed. Just a great popcorn flick.

  • If anything, I lost my faith in movie ratings

This was pretty bad. It starts out promising, but as the movie goes on, it goes from one disjointed scene to the next. You don't know where it's going. There is no nice flow. It's like the movie constantly stutters. It hurts the storytelling very much.

And then the jokes, one of the main selling points of Deadpool, in this movie they are forced: look at me telling a joke! Yeah, but it wasn't that good, so please stop bragging. And also don't talk to the audience all the time. I find it highly annoying. A couple of times is OK. This is too much.

I can't even go deep into the story, because it was all over the place. The basic storyline is very simple, too simple, but as a whole it is a complete chaos. When things happen, why they happen, how they happen, it seems that little thought was put into it. So on top of the bad flow from one scene to the next it's also a lack of logic in and between scenes. This is reinforced by a lot of unnecessary/useless dialogue, which sometimes made the movie drag. Just tedious. The fighting scenes felt gratuitous.

I don't understand the high rating this movie has received. Is it my personal taste? I struggled to finish the movie and had a sigh of relief at the end, even though I loved the first two Deadpool movies. This one's an absolute miss in my book. Definitely over-rated.

  • I timetraveled to give you this superfluous warning

It's been a while since I've watched this movie. My opinion traveled from the past because I still feel compelled to tell you how much I dislke this movie.

To put it plain and simple, this is the worst movie in the Terminator franchise and it isn't even close. Yet another movie that's basically a long chase, but in this one are no elements that haven't already featured in previous movies, except for the role of the crowd favourite, which role is pathetic. We see him as a Terminator turned husband and father?? It's like Family Guy does Terminator. A joke. And the acting of everyone is mediocre.

I mean, the whole plot, what is the use of it when it's just other Terminator movies revisited? The outset of the plot is different, but that's not a good thing, because the relationship with other movies has either been broken or has become so complicated that it doesn't even matter anymore what the logic or the sequence of events is. This wouldn't have been a problem if this had lead to a new and interesting storyline. But it really doesn't. It's like, whatever, people are only interested in the action scenes, so let's the same old trick.

Well, about those action scenes, they were pretty bland. I forgot about almost all of them at this poin (as forgettable as the characters, really). Only the end fight comes to mind. And for me it's just very unbelievable that an old Terminator model like the T-800 has a fighting chance against these advanced models. I also believed that in regard to T3 and more so in regard to Genisys. In Dark Fate the difference in capabilities becomes so big that it's just ridiculous. Of course, that's why the T-800 teamed up with the others to kill off the baddie. It was still a very uneven matchup and very predictable. Again, bland.

So, really, there's nothing in this movie for me that I could enjoy. I know that other people have already said all the things I'm summing up here in different shapes and forms and there really was no need for me to post this review. See what I've done? I'm going where the Terminator franchise has gone. Into superfluousness!

By the way, I agree with others who say that you might possibly enjoy it if you are not familiar with T1 and T2 (those oldies still kick butt). But then, that would imply this movie has no value as part of the franchise. That's probably a good conclusion to end with.
