I can honestly say I went to this movie with apprehension, especially because Superman has a history of not being well-represented on screen. However, I can say that James Gunn knows his stuff, and given that this movie is meant to be the foundation of his new DC Universe, I think he succeeded admirably.

Although all the characters are very well cast, the spotlight is stolen by Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. I have always complained that no movie has ever had a great Luthor before, but today that spell was broken. Hoult makes the Man of Tomorrow's arch-nemesis a believable character; he embodies the fear and hate of the unknown like only a select few have done while playing Luthor on television.

This movie is also very hopeful, as any Superman movie should be. David Corenswet's Kal-El is very relatable and very flawed; this version of Superman is not a god, and I am happy the makers of the movie understood that. I have been very disappointed by previous incarnations of the Man of Steel that profoundly misunderstood the character, but not today.

The tagline for Superman (1978) was "You will believe a man can fly," and this movie made me believe it.

As much as horror icons go, M3GAN needs a few more movies to achieve that status, but she is well within her means to do so; at least she has the necessary attitude. I know many people might be baffled because this second entry in the franchise is not so much horror as it is an action comedy, but it's not like we haven't seen it before with the likes of ALIENS and Terminator; too many people forget the original Terminator movie was a horror sci-fi flick.

Now, I truly loved M3GAN 2.0. I knew exactly what I was signing up for, and I enjoyed it. The performances are great, and the storyline has enough twists to make the experience very enjoyable. I have to admit the first "catching up to" minutes felt a bit long, but once the plot got going, it was non-stop until the end.

A movie about a smart-ass, angsty, murderous AI teenager might not be everybody's cup of tea, but in a world of relentless remakes, rehashes, and franchise-draining reboots, M3GAN and its sequel's original ideas are honestly refreshing.
