For some reason I cannot fathom, this film was roundly panned by several other IMDB critics (with the exception of Dave McClain, who got it right). The film is. A bit slow and claustrophobic, but it does capture the sense of surrealistic fear felt by those who were in New York City on that day. I worked on the 88th Floor of the 2 WTC only a year before it was hit. I quit my job to sell baseball cards in front of the New York Stock Exchange. I was only a few blocks away when the first plane hit. My wife at the time worked in midtown, so I thought she would get home before me. But when the second plane hit, I packed up (along with several hundred others) and scooted uptown to catch the Queens train.
The mood there was one of bewilderment and disbelief. I believe this film captures that to a degree. The cast does a decent job with the acting, and some of the sequences are suspenseful. A few did not work, but on the whole, I felt the film was a success. Worth viewing.

Obsession can kill you. This tight little mystery unravels a pace that keeps you in suspense until the very end. The writers, Time Krabbe and George Sluizer would be hard-pressed ever to write a screenplay better than this for the rest of their lifetimes.
The acting is first-rate as well. The ill-fated lovers and a human beast that rivals Hannibal Lechter do a superb job with their roles. This is not one of your slick Hollywood productions with all the bells and whistles; it is a modestly produced film from Europe that absolutely hits the bullseye for entertainment. Not to be missed.

What do you get when you combine The Terminator with Rosemary's Baby? You get an enormous, expensive waste of talent and time. Peter Hyams is a quality director; and I am sure he will tell you that this was the worst film he was ever associated with.
The writer, Andrew Marlowe never worked again after this film; and rightfully so. The script is unintentionally hilarious, and there is one ridiculous situation after another in this waste of special effects and the only two bonafide actors in the film; Gabriel Byrne and Rod Steiger. I am also sure that both of them will tell you that this was the worst film either of them were associated with in their careers.
