The Chinese fantastic beast is stolen from Star Wars including the sound effect. Likewise the film has nothing to offer except for pretty costumes and good acting.

I don't like christmas. I don't like christmas films. I almost cried like 3-4 times.

Great craftsmanship but the content is only supported by the acting of the two protagonists. If I'd had a glass of wine, I might be able to pull a metaphor for theater vs film out of my hat... (Also shies away from showing a bad and manipulativ mother but has no problems of showing a dad who's trieing and failing.)
