Netflix just delivered the best limited series of 2025. Case closed. Every single episode is done in one long continuous take as you join two parents thrust into a mystery surrounding their 13-year-old son and his mysterious connection to the murder of another classmate. You literally can't take your eyes away from the screen and it makes you, immediately after watching it, go online to look up how they pulled it all off behind-the-scenes. The performances of Stephen Graham and newcomer Owen Cooper are also major standouts. Give the cast and everyone involved on this show all of the Emmys this fall.
I am not a horror movie person entirely, but these 10 stars go to Ryan Coogler's latest masterpiece for being one of the most original films released in recent memory. Taking the 1920s Jazz Age, the political/societal issues of the time, and a vampire story, and putting them together to create this story featuring toe-tapping musical sequences, scares and incredible performances from Michael B. Jordan (in a dual role) and a great ensemble cast makes this a film that won't leave your mind after the credits roll. And Autumn Durald Arkapaw makes history as the first female cinematographer to shoot a major blockbuster IMAX 70mm film, making the visuals she and Coogler created to bring you into this film's world an early frontrunner for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography.
Was so lucky to have actually seen it two days before it comes out via an AMC Theatres Early Access Screening in 3D! The main reason to see it is Halle Bailey and her amazing performance as Ariel. She nailed all the aspects the role required, same because Melissa McCarthy was the right pick for Ursula. Alan Menken did it once again with the iconic score and the specifically little new touches to the story to expand on Ariel and Eric's relationship earns an extra point, making us really be a "part of their world." The visuals look better when seen in 3D, and it looked much, much more "technicolorful" than the trailers. Definitely go and see it! And don't listen to the review bombers (that madness needs to stop and I mean it). Go in with an open mind.
