I watched it last night and feeling really overwhelmed. If I understood it correctly, it was all about the path we take from the worldly mind we live in to reach the universal mind. I do believe there are 2 minds, universal and worldly. Worldly mind has temptation, love, lust, fear, desire and all other emotions. But universal mind is as it is with nothing in it.
He was looking for the pearl his entire life. We call it a purpose or feeling of fulfillment which we try to find through different emotions. Lust(the first women), feeling deeply loved by someone(his wife Nancy), loving someone unconditionally(Natalie Portman), spirituality(Helen -- he described as goddess, someone who is above the earth). But none of them gave him the pearl.
There was another line, "In order to get out of it, you need to get in, so just breathe". All meditation practices focus on breathing so we can have universal mind.
One guy who was wearing the cross says "I was not supposed to get stuck in these worldly things", but its tempting.
"Everything is complete in its own and it is how it is supposed to be". -- no overthinking, judgement -- just relax and live in the moment.
I also liked the quote from Joseph -- "So much I was given, so much I left behind".
Overall, I loved the movie and would watch again to absorb the things I missed.

The only reason I wanted to watch this movie was the director, "Majid Majidi". He is one of my favorite director.
As expected, I was more than satisfied after watching the movie. He knows how much emotion is needed. Never too much never too less. He puts the emotion at the right place and at the right time. King of tragic endings. Kind of helplessness he brings, shows how deeply he has analyzed the situation before showing it on screen. Be it any movie Children of heaven, The Song of Sparrows or Baran, he never failed to touch our hearts(mine atleast).
Acting wise, everyone of them was able to convince. For me the person who wasn't acting at all was "Asha". She was raw and natural. Her expressions when she was scared of Amir, when she was uncomfortable and shy when he was clicking her photo and many more. Even though Akshi had very few dialogues in the movie, he has done a brilliant job with his facial expressions.
