This film was just unbelievably boring. Hardly anything happens. I really don't understand the reviews. People describe it as introverted and stylish, but if that's what I'm looking for, I'd rather look at a painting. I don't mind a film being slow, as long as it tells a story. That didn't happen here. You spend over two hours watching the not-very-remarkable life of a man in early 20th-century America. You hear some vague, floaty dialogues that make no sense, you see the main character chopping down a few trees, and a handful of odd figures pass by who serve no purpose in the film. And then there's one major event. That's pretty much it.
A solid 8 for this 18 year old thriller. There are some clichés, but overall this was a joy to watch. Some small side plots that were funny too.
Plenty of twists and turns. I'd totally recommend it to anyone who likes a good thriller. I don't really know what else to say. So I'm just completing my 300 characters.

With a movie that starts off from such a huge cliché, the question is whether the director has nevertheless managed to put a twist on it that keeps you watching with interest. Sadly, the dialogue is super cliché too, and the acting doesn't really help either, so it ended up being nothing like what I'd hoped for. I honestly don't get how this film got nominated for two Golden Globes. Sure, there's a bit of depth in the story eventually, but it never really surprises you, and the characters stay totally flat.
