Back To School was another attempt to give Rodney respect as a leading actor after Easy Money was considered a flop. In this slightly above average comedy, Rodney plays Thorton Melon (a hilarious name!), who goes back to school admist his wife cheating on him. From then on, the film lets Dangerfield essentially be himself on screen - not really acting but I caught a few laughs from his one liners. The plot is pretty abysmal. It's not too out there where it's hilarious and it's not realistic enough to be believable. Take away Dangerfield and a young Robert Downey Jr and I think this is a 3/10 movie rating.
Similar to the 1995 teen classic, Kids. Ken Park is rated R but much more emotionally disturbed. Harmony Korine works with director Larry Clarke in this film as well. Lorine's screenplay is felt through the whole movie and without him who knows how impactful this movie would've been. The movie tells a story of 4 different kids who are some way or another connected to the main character, Ken Park. Like the movie Kids, the teens in this film will decide if you like this movie or not. The movie starts off heavy and paves the way for a blend of turmoil for each character. The ending, personally, I loved a lot. Absolutely worth seeing if you're into anything Korine or Clarke have done with their careers. An underrated cult classic.
