I understand this is not a remake so I didn't go into it with that expectation. I just can't seem to get into the characters. Might be partly my own fault but I just don't connect with the main actors they chose. I just see Abbi and Janet and it's really hard for me to overcome. I was hoping to see more baseball but it's mainly taking place outside the field. The language doesn't feel quite right for the time period either. I ended up feeling bored with it after a couple episodes.
I think some of these low reviews are from people who just can't relate to the main character. That's fine, sometimes you just don't get it if you don't get it. What I did see was myself in Alex, the stupid decisions we sometimes make and the complex relationships we have, motherhood, addiction and abuse cycle, etc. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and judge someone else's decisions but entirely different when you are in the situation yourself. I liked how real all the characters were- especially Sean.
My 3 year old loves buses so this show is great for him. Some of the plot lines and characters are silly but it's not so horrible that I can't sit through it. The theme song is catchy and always playing in my head.
