90s were really unique times, there were a lot of strange cinematography mixes and one of this is also the movie Innocent Blood. Who would ever mix mafia crime movie with the vampirism you will ask, but John Landis did that and it works very well. The biggest plus for me is the cast, it is fantastic, we have sexy french Anne Parillaud as the vampire, and many known faces from other mafia crime movies like Robert Loggia, David Proval, Chazz Palminteri, Tony Sirico , especially Robert Loggia is fantastic as the main mafia boss, i only recommend to watch this movie just for his performance, he is just amazing, we also have cameo roles from legends of cinematography like Dario Argento, Frank Oz, Sam Raimi and Tom Savini. The movie pace is good, never get bored and it has a good sense of black humour, in times it can be very violent and gory but i like that. The cinematography and setting is good, really dark gritty streets of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I really didnt expect that i will enjoy this movie so much, i was thinking it will be boring piece of b trash, but it is good, it is entertaining, action packed and atmospheric with great entertaining cast. My grade 8/10.
My first contact with Wicked City was through live action version filmed in Hong Kong in 1992, it didnt impressed me so much but somehow the story stayed in my mind for a long time. Finally i got an opportunity to watch animated version and i was blown away. The animation is just perfect, one of the better i have seen from the 80s decade, even in the rank of the more known Akira but i must admit that i enjoyd Wicked City a lot more. The story is interesting it is unusual and it is mixture of Cyberpunk atmosphere and world with more supernatural horror themes with some bizzare unique only Japanese twists, there are also a lot of nudity and violence but it goes so well in the story. I recommend this animation to anyone who loves animation from that time, science fiction and horror.
