Self-awareness sits at the heart of this film's charm, turning vanity and excess into something oddly endearing. Instead of mocking the world of rock music with cruelty, it treats its subjects like lovable disasters, which is why so many real musicians have embraced it rather than rejected it.
The mock-documentary style feels impressively authentic, to the point that some viewers genuinely believed they were watching a real band. That level of commitment gives the satire real weight, and even decades later, the film's sharp eye for absurdity still lands. What might have felt too advanced for its time now reads as quietly influential.
For anyone who enjoys satire that feels affectionate rather than cynical, this remains a clever, highly rewatchable classic.

Atrocious what they did to Alice's story. Aside from a few nice costumes and makeup, there's very little here to care about. It feels empty, lifeless, and completely misses what made the original story my favorite book of all time. At least it can't disappoint when you aren't expecting anything from it.
"I've got an infinite number of places to go, the problem is where to stay."
A raw and uncomfortable watch. The film lives inside bitterness, loneliness, and people using words as weapons or shields. It's intense in moments, but also strangely exhausting.
I get what it's going for, but I never fully bought into the characters. A lot of the choices felt hard to believe, which made it difficult to really connect.
Still, it's well made and fearless, just not something that clicked with me.
