As an easter movies enthusiast, I must say, I was kind of intrigued by a modern take of a high esteemed classic such as Ben-hur. Honestly I was entertained for most of this film. The pace was fine, the special effects are average (sometimes there are fine, sometimes it's meh) I could even forgive some bad costumes and haircuts (at least it had a funny factor) but the ending is so cringe, it ruined the whole experience for me. I certainly won't ever watch this ever again because of this stupid ending. Stick to the original. It may be 65 years old but at least it's treating the audience like adults.
This movie made me realize that I don't like water much. Let's face it, water is kinda boring. We spend way too much time in that ocean village watching people swiming and smiling under water. It's slow and we don't feel invested like we were in the forest in the first movie. The truth is it feels unnecessary to redo the whole "learning the way" phase. The first movie did it well already and now redoing the same thing somewhere else feels tiresome. I really liked the first act with the guerilla thing then it just falls flat when they start learning about water. I liked the characters and wanted to know more about them; I really hope the sequel will focus way way less on the environment and more on the characters. If they could just leave that lame water village that'd be perfect.
The new Sonic content since at least the second movie, makes me realize how big of a problem the previous Sonic writers were. Still up to this day, I have to deal with a Sonic Colors/Boom PTSD. I hated the sarcastic, nerdy, dead inside comedy. Sonic Prime is the kind of energy Sonic should always have. The content is great for fast paced action and even fun humor.
The lore isn't religiously respected but it's not super outrageous neither. The characters are acting like themselves and their other versions are interesting for most of them. I'd say the weakest part was the forest universe and they don't drag it for too long. Also it's not an episodic deal, it's an actual series, so we revisit universes and there's a progression. If you liked the older Sonic stuff (before 2010) or you're a normie, it's an enjoyable show.
