Once again Vincent Zhao is back to play one of the most famous Chinese characters ! The movie reminds me of Once Upon A Time Hero In China a lot, sure the Jet Li classics are better, but The Unity of Heroes is a good kung-fu flick that deserves a try as well. Personally I enjoyed it and I don't mind seeing sequels for it.
The plot of the film is simple and entertaining. There are a lot of fighting scenes that feature knives. Sakaguchi once again plays an interesting character.
Don't let the negative reviews deceive you, Re: Born has plenty to offer if you like martial arts films.
The film is obviously about 3 boys and 2 girls that are kinda weird to the society, have attitude and by some kind of luck they meet each other, become friends and Power Rangers. I find the plot unconventional and certain scenes were simply off. The first half of the film was entertaining despite the plot, filled with action and funny moments. I expected to see more fights with the Power Rangers' suits, but unfortunately the fighting scenes were considerably short. The Rangers' enemies were poor looking except the main villain which was supposed to do something that didn't. Why wouldn't they give the people what they really want ? It reminds me of those films where the best parts are saved for the last minutes. At least films like Transformers and Pacific Rim pleased the audience with more than 1 Sci Fi action scene and things felt more balanced. It's like the director focused on the real life of the young super heroes and didn't know how to handle the action scenes. Overall the film is fun, but they didn't give us much of the rangers it felt more like Transformers in the end, but with cheaper looking giants fighting each other. I hope there is a sequel and the director handles the things better.
