An award conceived to "honour works of artistic quality which witnesses to the power of film to reveal the mysterious depths of human beings through what concerns them, their hurts and failings as well as their hopes." This jury is made of people nominated by SIGNIS (the World Catholic Association for Communication) and Interfilm (the International Interchurch Film Organisation, a protestant organization). Previously (until 2002) the catholic side of the jury was chosen by OCIC (the International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual). There are other ecumenical juries in other film festivals (Berlin, for instance), and SIGNIS also gives awards on its own as did OCIC before (most importantly, in the Venice Film Festival).

Award given in the Venice Film Festival first by the International Catholic Organization for Cinema and Audiovisual (OCIC) and later, since 2002, by the World Catholic Association for Communication (SIGNIS).

In some years there was no winner, but an honorable mention. In those cases I've taken the honorable mention as the film of that year in the list.

There is a big gap in the 70's where no award was given. This was the case not only for the OCIC Award, but also for other non-official awards of the festival.
