I don't think it matters how interesting the idea of the movie was, if the movie itself didn't manage to bring across any sort of energy or drama to the storytelling. People are giving this tremendous reviews. For me, it was a lot of circular conversations with really annoying people. I think the filming of all the cheesy tourist attractions was meant to be ironic, but since it involved me actually having to see the biggest viking head, fork, pot, dish, chair, and knife it loses all irony points and becomes a pretty good indicator of the rest of the movie.

The horror element was poorly constructed. I get the idea behind the film, but they don't explore it very well. The ending is deliberately vague to give some interest that the other 85 minutes lack.

I can't even make this review interesting. It was a lacklustre, self-indulgent annoying little feature without any sort of scare to make up for the boring dialogue and travel montages that take up the majority of the feature.

  • A movie about talking about barns. This is very serious.

  • when bad things happen to good ideas

I liked the idea so much, that I gave it even fewer stars for the horrible execution.

This is another example of found footage done poorly. The idea of following them through the haunted houses "in person" would have been awesome if we could see what was happening. It was so shaky and so poorly lit that there was hardly a point in watching the movie. This is where found-footage-makers need to get creative and figure out how to get the movie across as a movie, and they just didn't do it well. The skipping between cameras in the last set of haunted houses ruined the entire experience, too. If they had spent less time on the earlier ones, and then had each character in their own haunted house in the climax of the movie, going through the theme of what scares them most (they HAD this conversation and then only used one character's fears, which I really don't get) one at a time to end, THAT would have been a great culmination. Unfortunately they decided to shake the camera around in the dark instead.

Adding in a strip club just for shock value takes off like three points automatically, as well, ew, don't be like that.

I also thought it failed in how it was presented. I liked the documentary-style clips at first, until the plot of the main characters got going, and then it made no sense to have those interviews spliced in. If the Haunt Creeps filmed the events of the movie/stole the footage to post online virally, why would they add that stuff in? That would be a scary idea, but its not explored at all. Are we supposed to just forget about the entire concept of found-footage movies?

Since the haunted house scenes were wasted on technical mistakes, the movie was basically these five friends whining and fighting with each other which really sucks as a 90 minute movie. The climax doesn't get any better, so don't waste your time on this one.
