The start of this mini-series gave no clue about the powerful drama that was about to unfold. But once the plot begins to develop it continues to get better without any weak spots. One of the best I've seen in the past couple of years, well deserving of awards in a number of categories. I especially admired how it packed in a huge variety of social issues. The protagonists are especially well drawn as characters. So nice to watch a series where the writer had the whole story wrapped up from the outset. None of the weak rambling that so often invades similar length dramas. Doesn't quite merit the elusive 10, mainly because of the packing in of those social issues I mentioned. They were all realistic and well written, but really could have done with being stretched over more episodes. I hope there isn't another series - this is a complete story and doesn't need extending.
Highly recommended.

A reasonable concept for a drama but the writing was unbelievably bad. A few times along the way I thought I could just about suspend disbelief but really it went beyond what could be reasonably expected. So much so, I wondered whether it was really some kind of spoof. This was not worthy of the skills of Suranne Jones.
I didn't really get going with this. I can see how it set the trend for later medical dramas that I really enjoyed, especially The Resident and New Amsterdam but this looked to be rather too much like a soap opera with a set formula for each episode. Maybe I should have given it more time but I didn't.
