Blade Runner 2049 definitely took me by surprise by being one of my favorite movies of this year. At first I was skeptical about the 2 hour and 45 minute screen time and was prepared to sit thru many boring scenes. However, in the end I felt the movie did a great job making the time go by very fast. Could it have been shorter? Yes. However, I'm glad it wasn't. There were so many scenes that were crucial to the plot and to the movie. Everything adding together into one big scene of reveal that makes the audience go "ahhh". Those long scenes of silence in the movie were so intense and heart pounding. If there is one thing that this movie utilized perfect, it would be silence. Definitely a must watch in my book.
I have a feeling that this is going to be a great season. Just finished watching the season premier and if the rest of the season were as interesting as this first episode, then I think we're in for a treat. There's just something about the writing, character development, and story telling this episode that really stood out.
The episode begins with a nice introduction to catch you up on all the events that's happened and everything that's gone wrong. The humans in the city are finally gaining some sort of foothold and are fighting back hard against the Strigoi. All the main characters are shown in this first episode and I think the premier did a good job of telling where the plot will lead into for the next 9 episodes. The army is helping the city, Eph is drowning himself in booze and attempting to get his son back, and Setrakian is still trying to decipher The Lumen. Fet is still carrying the show for me. He's just a bad-ass in his element.
Overall, this is going to be a great season and I can't wait for more episodes!
