tomgoblin-44620's rating
I devotedly watched the original series and loved it.
Because I had such a positive memory, I took the opportunity to watch it again in 2025.
I was not disappointed.. In fact my reaction was the opposite. It struck me as current something watching and not out of date.
A big factor was the first rate acting from Hennessy and Ferrer. The writing is superb. All other production elements are first rate. So, what I'm saying is that, if you like it long ago you will like it again.
If you are to young to have seen in the first run---fear not you can see it again. I say it is a classic. And NOT dated at all.

I think some of the people that hated it just took it too seriously. After 15 minutes or so, I was reminded of a spooky mystery game I enjoyed playing on the computer back in the Nineties. At that point I just settled in to enjoy the ride. I came over to IMDB to find out something about the movie and was amazed to find out they only spent a few thousand pounds. I say they squeezed a lot out for their money. I've seen multi-million dollar budget movies that had their share of plot holes and poor pacing. One especially strong point were the lead actors. I found them highly likable.
I congratulate Mr. Moores on his effort. There is a lot to be said for actually making something. Let the scoffers scoff and the makers make.

Takes a fine (and proven) concept and never drops the ball. It made me think of more than one "Ghost" romance from the golden age of Hollywood. Specifically "A Guy Named Joe" with Spencer Tracy. This garnered an Oscar nomination and deserved it. "Above The Shadows" is not like this black and white movie from 1943 yet it takes the a lot of the best emotional ingredients and puts them in a realistic present. Trilby and Alan Ritchson both carry the movie well. You can see why Ritchson has shot to the top with his "Jack Reacher" work. A nod also to Johannsen as the sleazy promoter. Well acted, well directed, it is a bargain to see this for free on streaming. I see others giving it a high rating and it certainly earns it.
